Basic Brake Course

Description

The Basic Brake course is of two days duration. The courses will be designed for a wide range of personnel to give a basic understanding of Railway Braking equipment. The course is ideal as part of an induction process for those taking a position for the first time in the industry. The course can include a test at the conclusion of the course if desired. Certificates will be issued.

The following topics will be included.

1. Basic Brake System Overview and the interaction of major components.

2. Air Supply and Treatment System.

a. Overview and identification of major components.

b. Types of Compressors, control of compressors and configuration.

c. Air Dryers, a basic understanding of how they work and the importance of using Air Dryers in the system.

3. Brake Control.

a. Components that make up brake control.

b. Types of brake control

4. Sub Systems.

a. Air Suspension, types of suspension and major components.

b. Wheel Slide Protection and Sanding, major components.

c. Parking Brake, major components, interlocks with other systems.

5. Actuators, Types of actuators.
